Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question? We aim to answer them for all our pupils.
Getting Started
We all have different natural attributes and skills that we have picked up and developed over the years; for example co-ordination, decision making and road sense to name a few. This means that each individual student's base learning level will drastically differ and pupils learning speeds will also vary.
Your A-Class instructor will work with you and teach you in a way that you understand to help develop your driving skills as quick as possible. They can also conduct a driving assessment for you and observe your current knowledge and how you are taking on and responding to new information.
This can help to give you a more accurate judgement of your current ability and how to move forward. Your instructor will work with you in a way that works best for you to maximise your progress during your lessons.
Remember there is no minimum or maximum number of lessons, you are ready when you are ready!
You can pay using cash, cheque (made payable to your instructor), bank transfer (ask your instructor for their bank account details). Some of our instructors now have the facility to take payment in person by card (most major debit/credit cards accepted) or Apple/Google pay.
If unsure, please ask you A-Class instructor which methods they have available to you.
You will need to be 17 years old before you can legally drive on the road, so be sure to contact us a good few months prior to turning 17 to ensure we have availability.
We will come to you! Your A-Class instructor will liaise with you where the best place is to pick you up from and finish your lesson working around your busy schedule. This could be for example from home, work or college.
Yes. You will need to show your provisional licence to your instructor on your first lesson and also provide an licence 'check code' which you can obtain from the UK Government website and follow the steps. This will allow your instructor to digitally check your eligibility to drive.
This would depend on your instructor’s availability but usually yes. We always recommend having a few time slots free where your instructor can fit you in to allow for them to cover driving tests for other pupils if necessary.
This is entirely up to you and your instructor’s availability. The more practise you can do the quicker you'll be ready!
Your lessons can be as long as you would like! We offer 1 hour, 1.5 hours or 2 hour lessons traditionally. But we can extend them to 3, 4 and 5 hours (with a rest break) if an intensive course is more suited to you.
In the interests of safety and comfort, students are strongly advised to wear only suitable footwear and clothing which do not restrict your movement. If you have questions, please consult your instructor who will be happy to advise you.
Absolutely! Practising at home supplements your lessons is a great way to improve. The more practise you get, the better, safer and more confident you will be.
Also, the more miles you spend behind the wheel, the more that goes into your experience bank and help improve your decision-making.
Speak to your instructor to see when they think you are ready to start practising at home.
At least 48 hours’ notice of cancellation or postponement of a lesson is required. Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are chargeable unless the reason for cancelling is Covid-19 related.
If by reason of a vehicle failure or other emergency, a lesson has to be postponed at short notice, an alternative lesson shall be made with mutual consent.
In the case of a driving test, the School will be responsible to the student for the fee of the next test.
Pupils must appreciate that it may not always be possible to notify the student of a cancellation if a breakdown occurs on the way to a lesson.
