New fines for ignoring lane closures
From June 10th a new driving offence was introduced which could see you instantly land a fine on the motorway. On a smart motorway you’ll be penalised £100 and land three points for ignoring lane closures. Read more about it in the Express
Although some people may feel it’s just another stealth tax on the motorist, it’s actually very important that drivers acknowledge the red cross showing lane closures. They’ll need to move lanes as soon as it’s safe to do so, as there will be danger ahead in that lane. With the high speeds involved, motorists should ensure they don’t leave it until it’s too late.
Our driving instructors can cover this and other motorway procedures in theory during driving lessons but as the nearest smart motorway from Shrewsbury is the M6, it can mean a longer driving lesson is required to actually get some practice on them.
