New fines for ignoring lane closures

From June 10th a new driving offence was introduced which could see you instantly land a fine on the motorway. On a smart motorway you’ll be penalised £100 and land three points for ignoring lane closures. Read more about it in the Express

Although some people may feel it’s just another stealth tax on the motorist, it’s actually very important that drivers acknowledge the red cross showing lane closures. They’ll need to move lanes as soon as it’s safe to do so, as there will be danger ahead in that lane. With the high speeds involved, motorists should ensure they don’t leave it until it’s too late.
